Installing Personal Web Server

Windows 98 users should install PWS. If you're a Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional user, install IIS instead. For more information, see Installing Internet Information Server.

You can install PWS on the same Windows 98 system as the one on which you're running Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004. Make sure Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later is installed on the system or you cannot install PWS.

To install PWS:

  1. Double-click the PWS installation file on the Windows 98 CD.
  2. Follow the installation wizard.
  3. When asked for your default web publishing home directory, accept the default directory:

    C:\Inetpub\wwwroot

  4. Click Finish to end the installation process.

You can test the web server after installing it. For more information, see Testing PWS or IIS.
