Add text links between pages

You can create links at any stage of the site-creation process. If you're following the tutorials of this guide in order, then you've already created your pages and placed content in them; in this lesson, you'll create links between the pages you've created.

There are two other approaches to creating links for a site:

To create a link from the news page to index.html:

  1. Switch to the news page if it's not the current page. (If the page isn't open, open it by double-clicking its icon in the Files panel.)
  2. In the bottom of the main text column on the left side, select the words Home Page.

If you didn't add text to the left column of the news page when you created it, enter the words Home Page in that text column and select those words.

  3. In the Property inspector (Window > Properties), click the folder icon next to the Link text box. Browse to the index.html file in the same folder as the news.html file, and click OK (Windows) or Choose (Macintosh) to link to that file.

The "Home Page" text is underlined and turns blue, indicating that it's now a link.

Note: Links don't work when you click them in the Document window in Dreamweaver; links work only in a browser. To make sure your link works correctly, you need to preview your page in a browser. For information on previewing, see Preview pages in a browser.

  4. Save your page.
